Portland’s Rain of Glass (PROG) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3), educational membership organization that was established in 1978 to inform and educate individuals who have an interest in collectible glass. Every meeting, we have a time set aside to help with glass identification. Our extensive library of reference books is available to our members. We have several public glass displays each year and we have seminars and classes to educate our members and the community at large.
PROG is Oregon’s oldest and largest Depression and Elegant Glassware organization. Since 1978, PROG has been meeting and learning about beautiful glassware, china, pottery and other collectibles of times past. Each month, we publish a newsletter to keep our membership informed and educated about our activities. PROG is a member of the National Depression Glass Association.
PROG has monthly meetings (except August) where we meet to discuss glassware and to become better informed about glass and other collectibles. We are fortunate to have as members some of the nation’s leading authorities in beautiful glassware. We have a Show & Tell table or a “Bring & Brag” time where our “experts” can identify a piece that otherwise has no markings. Meetings include a glass “Pattern of the Month”, a guest speaker or program on glassware or other collectible items. We usually have a “Show & Sell” table for members who want to display glassware they have for sale. Our refreshments are second to none and always served elegantly. Our extensive reference library, with books that may be checked out, is available to members at our monthly meetings. Members can order and receive a discount on selected books and reference materials.
Every year in January, we have a Show & Sale at the Fairgrounds in Hillsboro, Oregon. In May, we have a Glass Collectors Convention with an auction and seminars. Periodically, we go on field trips to local glassmakers or to regional shows and museums. Portland’s Rain of Glass also publishes a very informative newsletter 12 times a year.
